Set your business rules
The accounting rules used on every new invoice, like the Xero income account and default payment terms.
- Open Settings and choose Business rules under Company.
- Under Accounting rules, find the rule you want to change and type the new value.
- Press Save on that row, then OK to confirm.
The rules are:
- Xero income account (default / Sydney jobs): the Xero account codes your invoice lines go to.
- Xero income account for Hold Over Night.
- Xero tax type on sales lines.
- Payment terms when a client card sets none: a number of days, and either days after the invoice date or days, then end of that month.
Once saved, a rule's Source shows Changed. Recent changes lists who changed what, and when.
Only admins see Business rules.
Common questions
Will changing a rule change invoices already in Xero?
No. A rule is used on every invoice drafted or re-priced after you save. Invoices already in Xero don't change.
One customer has different payment terms. What wins?
The payment terms on that customer's client card always win. The default here is only used when a client card sets none.
It says "sign in with your own account to change business rules".
Rules can only be changed by an admin signed in as themselves, so the change is recorded against a name. Sign out of any shared login and sign in with your own.
