Make an API key for your own systems
Create, copy and revoke the keys your own systems or developer use to reach your TrakkHQ data.
- Open Settings and choose Connections.
- Under Automation and developers, find the API keys card. It shows No keys, or how many live keys you have. Press Create key to open the API keys panel.
- Type a name so you know what it's for, e.g. "Website form".
- Choose Read only or Read and write, then press Create key.
- Press Copy and keep the key somewhere safe. It won't be shown again.
- Give the key to your developer. They send it with each request as `Authorization: Bearer trk_...` to the `/api/v1` address. Calling `/api/v1/me` is a quick way to check the key works.
The table lists every key with its Access, who made it and when it was Last used. Only the start of each key is shown.
To stop a key working, press Revoke beside it. Anything using it stops working straight away.
Only admins can make or revoke keys. Each key can make up to 120 requests a minute.
Common questions
What's the difference between Read only and Read and write?
Read only keys can only look. Read and write keys can also send requests, which land in Approvals for a person to click before anything changes.
I lost a key. Can I see it again?
No. A key is shown once, when you make it. Revoke the lost one and create a new key.
It says "sign in with your own account to make an API key".
Keys can only be made or revoked by an admin signed in as themselves, so there's a record of who did it. Sign out of any shared login and sign in with your own.
Can I connect Claude, ChatGPT or Copilot?
Not yet. The Connect to AI box at the top of Connections is marked Coming soon.
